In the basement of the ABC Sports broadcasting centre, a US team prepares for another day of sports broadcasts - until shots are fired and everything turns into a state of emergency. September 5 tells the story of the hostage-taking of the Israeli Olympic team by the Palestinian group „Black September“ not from the street, but from the confines of the control room: journalists who are suddenly responsible for live images of a terrorist attack, making decisions in seconds and not knowing who else is watching on screen. The film shows how anti-Semitism and violence against Jews become visible worldwide - and how television, the public and politics react to this moment.
