Daphna works as an animator and lives in Amsterdam. However, she does not really feel at home there. Her works also often shed light on the meaning of home.
Daphna is an animated filmmaker and illustrator based in Amsterdam. In her award-winning animated documentaries she combines personal stories with social questions about identity, migration and a feeling of being at home. Your current film Swimming With Wings was celebrated internationally and awarded the Grand Prix du Jury at the Meknes International Animation Film Festival and the ECFA Documentary Film Award at the Olympia International Film Festival. With a sensitive view and an unmistakable Mixed media aesthetics Daphna tells intimate, poetic stories characterised by her own life between different countries and cultures: she moved from Jerusalem to Amsterdam to be closer to her grandmother. She founded the first and only kibbutz in Holland. Kibbutzim play a major role in the founding history of Israel.
Kibbutz:
A Kibbutz (pl. Kibbutzim) is a form of rural community settlement in Israel, in which the members live and work on the basis of shared responsibility and common property. The concept arose from the combination of Zionist ideas of a homeland for the Jewish people with socialist ideas of equality and co-operation. In a kibbutz, property outside of personal ownership belongs to the community and work and care are organised jointly. (Spectrum)
The first of these settlements was founded in 1909 on the shores of the Sea of Galilee. In the early days of the Jewish settlement movement, kibbutzim played a central role in the Development of agricultural infrastructure and the territorial presence of the later State of Israel. Many kibbutzim were established in remote or strategically important areas and their inhabitants contributed to the Development of new habitats and for defence in times of crisis with. (bpb.de)
Even after the establishment of the modern state, the kibbutz remained a a formative component of Israeli society. Although many communities have changed over the course of time and more economically diversified today are, they keep Elements of shared responsibility and democratic decision-making processes with. The original Principles of solidarity and cooperation have not only influenced the development of agriculture and industry, but also continue to symbolise a special way of life that is firmly anchored in Israel's history.
